Tell us some background\/facts about yourself.
My name is Emely and I am 25 years old and I live in Stockholm. I have previously lived in M\u00e4rsta but moved to Skarpn\u00e4ck. My two sisters also live in Stockholm so it is nice to have them close by. I also have a boyfriend but he lives in Ireland and hopefully he will come visit here to Anafora soon, hihi. Maybe we will get engaged, we will see (happy mine).
I have also studied Biology at university. <\/p>\n

Why did you choose to come to Anafora? How did you find Anafora?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My mother's friend told me about Anafora. She saw that I was having a hard time for a while and knew that I would enjoy and find peace in Anafora. And Anafora is a place for everyone. I was raised as a Christian but it has been more like a "tradition" or "culture" for me. I don't feel particularly Christian and that's why Anafora is a good place for me because it's not just for Christians. <\/p>\n

What does it mean to be a volunteer here and what are your duties?<\/b><\/i><\/br> Everything is possible. In the beginning it was difficult to \u201cfind the right one\u201d because they said \u201cyou can do whatever you want and as much as you want\u201d. But help is needed everywhere; the kitchen, the dishes, the harvest or if you want to find somewhere to help yourself. They don\u2019t ask but if there is a real crisis and they need help somewhere then they ask for help but not otherwise. <\/p>\n

How long have you been here?<\/b><\/i><\/br> I have been here since September 17th and I am going home on December 17th. So I will stay in Anafora for three months. But you can of course stay longer if you want.<\/br> What's also good is that they arrange transportation to and from the airport. And if you want to go to a city or something similar, they also arrange transportation. <\/p>\n

Have you done volunteer work before?<\/b><\/i><\/br> No, it's the first time. <\/p>\n

What do you miss from Sweden? <\/b><\/i><\/br> Nothing special but maybe small things like cheese, maybe Swedish Arla cheese. The food here is a little different but not that bad. <\/p>\n

How should young people who want to work as volunteers in Anafora proceed?<\/b><\/i><\/br> It's a bit difficult because they don't have a website that you can look at or anything like that, but they do have an email address that you can email, but sometimes the internet doesn't work here so it's not every day they check their email. Otherwise, just call. If you can't speak Arabic or English, Katja is here who speaks Swedish, so just ask for her. <\/br> Anafora is how you do it yourself, meaning you go by the feeling. You don't have to work very hard at Anafora because it doesn't require you to do something or do certain things, but you get to feel for yourself how much you can handle and how much you want. <\/p>\n

What should you consider before registering your interest in volunteering?<\/b><\/i><\/br> It's a Muslim country and strictly Christian here. For example, smoking and alcohol, that you don't smoke in front of others here or in front of the bishop who is here. <\/br> Clothing is also important to consider, because I didn't know that you weren't allowed to wear tank tops (shoulders only), that you should wear respectable clothes, a little longer clothes than in Sweden, if we say so.<\/br> Visas, passports and money are also important things that you should not forget.<\/br> I actually wished I had brought a flashlight because sometimes there are power outages and a flashlight is handy. I would also like to bring my hair dryer because sometimes you don't want to go outside with wet hair. \t <\/p>\n

What does Anaphora mean to you?<\/b><\/i><\/br> Peace and quiet.<\/br> A place where you get to know yourself, it's a good place. <\/br> I think I'll probably go back here.<\/p>\n
